City Council decides against roundabouts

The Chico City Council has decided to cancel plans to build roundabouts on the Esplanade.

More than 20 protesters testified against the change to the historical street, and Chico High students gave the council alternate ideas.

“Studies show that roundabouts don’t work in high areas of traffic. You can screw up our other streets, leave our big one alone” said protester Michael Reilley.

Most of the citizens seemed to share Reilley’s sentiment, with very few people at the meeting being in favor of the change.

The council plans to make other changes in the near future. Possibilities include building a bridge, or making a crosswalk on certain cross streets.
