Chico man arrested in frozen yogurt shop robbery

Jeromy Waybright of Chico has been charged with robbing Jon and Bons.

A Chico man has been arrested for robbing a frozen yogurt shop where he worked on Dec. 2 with a gun that was stolen years ago.

Jeromy Waybright, 20, 808 W Second Ave., was arrested the next day. He worked at the Jon and Bons frozen yogurt shop on Mangrove Avenue in Chico.

Here’s what happened, according to the Chico Police Department:

A man entered the store Sunday night wearing all black clothing with gloves, a three-hole ski mask and a gun.

The only people in the shop at the time were two female employees who the robber ordered into a restroom.

“I think the two ladies here did a great job,”  Chico Police Detective Kevin Hass said. “They stayed calm, they acted appropriately in order to do what this person said, they kept their wits about them. When we were there, they helped us do our job. I think they should really get some credit for helping out with the case.”

After making the women stay in the bathroom, the man emptied the cash register and left the restaurant.

“It didn’t take long,” Hass said. “Based on all the evidence that we had, we had a pretty good idea of who the person was based on that.”

Waybright was arrested after police reviewed security footage.

“Some of his actions, which he was captured on video doing while he was working,  support the fact that this was planned, staged and executed by him,” Hass said. “I have no doubt in my mind that this is the guy that did it.”
