Chico man arrested for armed robbery at Children’s Playground

The robbery took place downtown at the local Children's Playground.
Chico police officers chased and arrested a Chico man after witnesses reported that he committed an armed robbery at the local Children's Park.

Jehvon Castillo III, 20, is accused of assaulting another man while trying to rob him of recreational marijuana at gunpoint.

The incident occurred just before 6:30 p.m. on April 18.

Witnesses told police that the suspect assaulted multiple people during his attempt to rob them. The witnesses were able to provide a physical description of the suspect, which allowed officers to find him.

According to a Chico Police Department news release, the man fled authorities when confronted. The children’s playground’s proximity to Chico’s downtown plaza allowed the man to escape on foot through the Thursday Night Market crowd.

The man was spotted and then attempted to run from the police.

Officers already assigned to patrol the Thursday Night Market attempted to detain the man as he made his way through the crowd at the market.

As the man ran through City Plaza, people there tackled him, allowing officers to detain him from there.

Castillo has since been released from jail on bond.
