Two men who used an automatic handgun to shoot at an occupied car in south Chico on April 24 have been arrested.
Joseph Paul Fratus, 19, and Noah Joseph Apodaca, 20, are charged with possession and transport of a fully automatic gun and assault on an occupied vehicle, according to court documents.
Witnesses told police the two men were driving through the south Chico neighborhood and shot at an occupied car in the 1100 block of West Ninth Street at around 7 p.m.
The shots had been fired from a white truck, according to a news release from Chico police. No injuries were reported.
The truck returned to the area around 9:30 p.m while the investigation was underway. Police detained the two men and found the modified fully automatic weapon in their truck.
Both men are charged with the sale, possession and transport of what is considered a machine gun, according to the court documents.
Fratus is charged with assault and using a Glock 27 .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun that had been modified for fully automatic use.

Apodaca, a prior felon, was charged with possession of the weapon. He had recently been released from custody and faces additional charges.
Fratus and Apodaca were booked into Butte County Jail in Oroville. Bail for Fratus is set at $375,000, Apodaca at $90,000.
A first hearing for both men was Thursday in the Butte County Superior Court.
The next hearing will take place May 30.
