Two arrested in Community Park car theft

A man and a woman were arrested April 19 for stealing a car near Community Park.

Authorities charged Joshua Sharp, 38, with possession of stolen property and a stolen vehicle and Christina Ryan, 33, with possession of narcotics.

The incident occurred at the park, which has recently been a hotspot for illegal activity. Chico police officers have been making frequent patrols there.

On one of the patrols, officers spotted a car that had been reported stolen the previous day. No one was inside.

The owner arrived soon after and confirmed the car was his. He told investigators he was missing a charging cord, a pair of shoes and a portable electronic device.

While speaking to the victim, officers were told by park staff that a man and woman had been seen leaving the vehicle earlier that day.

The pair were approached by the officers shortly after. The man was wearing the victim's shoes and was in possession of the charging cord and the keys of the stolen vehicle.

A search discovered the man was also in possession of illegal narcotics.
Commander Mike Rodden said the officers found both had suspected methamphetamine in their possession, which totaled about 5 grams.
“There was no resistance when they were placed under arrest and no force was used by the officers.  They did give a story to explain how they came to possess the stolen property, but I won’t go into detail since they have pending court dates” Rodden said.
The suspects were taken to Butte County Jail. The vehicle and property were released to the victim.
