Planning Commission votes to move ahead with Morseman Avenue housing proposal

The Chico Planning Commission has approved a single-family home development
on the east side of Morseman Avenue.

The Chico Planning Commission voted during its May 2 meeting to move forward with a subdivision for single-family residential development, which would provide more homes in Chico.

The proposal would subdivide 2.9 acres into 24 lots located on the east side of Morseman Avenue, between Netters Circle and Alynn Way.

The patch of land is ideal for medium-density housing, according to the proposal. Approval remains contingent upon annexation to the City of Chico.

Effects on traffic and possible adjustments to speed limits in the area were discussed during the meeting. The development would be built in an existing neighborhood with a cul de sac, eliminating the possibility of needing to use land for connections to bike routes and roads in the future.

Nearby residents voiced concerns that the remaining Valley Oak trees in the area would be cut down. Only eight trees are left compared to how many there were 30 years ago.

The plan is currently exempt from further environmental review.

The next meeting on the proposal will take place on May 16, at which time the public will able to share concerns.
