South Chico residents say they support a plan to house Camp Fire survivors in government housing near them but not the traffic that comes with it.

Representatives from FEMA and California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services attended a special City Council meeting Tuesday night to hear public concerns about the Camp Fire survivor housing project.

The 82-unit project could increase traffic in the Hegan Lane and Aztec Drive area, according to the neighbors who spoke Tuesday night, but they insist on having a traffic plan.

“South Chico has (received) most of the weight of this disaster since it happened,” said JD Estep, a speaker at the meeting. “For a lot of us, all of this has been within a mile of where we live.”

Spokespersons for FEMA and the emergency services office said providing housing to displaced survivors is taking so long because of all the technical aspects that go into it.
