Chico man's lawsuit accuses Enloe of medical malpractice

A Chico man is suing Enloe Medical Center for medical malpractice.

Jack Harris claims that on Sept. 9, 2017, he was given too much morphine by a staff member at the hospital.

According to court records, Harris claims that he was recovering from surgery for a dog bite when he was administered morphine by an Enloe medical professional who did not log the dose given to him. Harris was then given another dose of morphine by a second medical professional, which caused him to overdose, his suit claims.

Harris said the overdose caused him to suffer physical and psychological damage, and that the overdose put him on “the brink of death.”

Harris is being represented by Jose Camilo Artiga-Purcell, a lawyer based in San Francisco.

“We have no doubt in our minds that medical negligence was done to Mr. Harris, and we believe that we will win some compensation for Mr. Harris,” Artiga-Purcell told ChicoReport.

The judge and parties are scheduled to meet for a case-management conference in March.

The two sides attempted to settle the issue outside of court in January but couldn’t reach an agreement.

Enloe Medical Center did not return calls for comment.
