Chico police arrest man after stabbing incident

Sterling Steinmetz was taken into custody after a fight in which another man was stabbed.
A Chico man was arrested last week after police received a call about a stabbing near California Highway 99 and Skyway Road. The victim was taken to the hospital with an abdomen wound.

Sterling Steinmetz, 28, no known address, was taken into custody Feb. 24 after multiple witnesses were interviewed and picked his photo out in a lineup, according to a Chico Police Department news release. 

The police responded to a call on Notre Dame Boulevard and Morrow Lane around 10:30 a.m. the day before. 

A man was found with a stab wound to the abdomen near Notre Dame Boulevard and Morrow Lane.
The victim said he and another man had gotten into an argument over personal property, which lead to a physical fight and the stabbing.  The attacker was last seen walking down Notre Dame Boulevard. 

In a news release, police said they were looking for a local transient with many tattoos on his lower legs. 


Steinmetz was booked into Butte County Jail on charges of petty theft, theft of personal property and assault on a person.
