Chico woman sues city for negligence

A Chico woman is suing the city over injuries she sustained after tripping over an exposed bolt on the bike path.

Judith Barclay is suing the city of Chico for negligence in a civil case.  She claims she suffered a concussion, neck pain, emotional distress and anxiety from the accident.

In her suit, Barclay said she believes the hazard she encountered to be from a removed vehicle obstruction pole. This removal left the inner bolt exposed and hard to detect along the path.

This case filed in Butte County District Court on Oct. 17 is one of 11 cases filed against the city in the past five years including an ongoing case filed March 3 involving a woman who was jogging down a path in Bidwell Park when a tree branch fell on her.

The city has yet to respond to Barclay’s suit.
