Airport commissioner dismissed for disrupting council meeting

The Chico City Council has voted to remove the city's airport commissioner from his position for his role in a protest at the council’s Sept. 4 meeting.

Mayor Sean Morgan ask to make an addition to the agenda and to take immediate action to remove Steven Breedlove from his position for “willful disruption of a public meeting.” The council suspended its rules to do so toward the end of this week's seven-hour council meeting.

Breedlove took part in a protest that interrupted the meeting two weeks ago and provoked Morgan to clear the chambers. The City Council appointed Breedlove in 2017 to serve on the commission for a four-year term.

“This is a transparently authoritarian act of political retaliation,” Breedlove told the council. “Civil disobedience would not have been necessary if our voices were heard.”
