Pivot Charter School-North Valley awarded Chico charter

Pivot Charter School wins over the Chico School Board, which approved the school's charter on a 3-1 vote.

The Chico school board has granted a two-year charter to Pivot Charter School-North Valley, which currently educates students in grades 6-12.

As a condition, Pivot will be required to demonstrate growth and improvement within a year.

On Sept. 20, Pivot submitted a petition for a charter renewal to the school board. Last Wednesday, the board voted to approve the charter on a 3-1 vote. The decision was made after a 20-minute open discussion.

Many students and parents attended the meeting to support the application and shared their experiences with Pivot.

After the decision, school Executive Director Jayna Gaskell hailed the decision on the school's Facebook page.

“We have every reason to think this is the start of something even better for our school and the long-term role we can play in the community helping students and families who need something a little different,” she wrote.
