City of Chico puts forward storm water resource plan

The city of Chico will hold a final public meeting Dec. 13  to get final input on a stormwater resource plan.

City Engineering Manager Douglas Moore told the City Council on Nov. 28 that his department will submit a final plan for funding in the middle of next year.

The plan’s purpose, he said, is to better control the quality of stormwater as well as improve the use of stormwater. Weekly cleanups at Big Chico Creek and Little Chico Creek could be one of the ways this could be done.

The stormwater resource plan must satisfy requirements and guidelines for their eligibility to receive state grant funds for the project. After a plan is selected, Chico will then compete with other cities in the state to get funding for the entire project.

Two TAC meetings will take place next year, one on Jan. 4 and another on April 25. These meetings will be for the public to voice any questions or concerns and begin reviewing the various plans.
