Arrested were Tiffany Copp, 29, and Jason Nystrom, 45, both listed as homeless, according to Chico police.
The homeowner was sleeping at the time of incident but woke up after hearing noise and confronted the perpetrators.
Here’s what happened, according to a Chico police report:
When the homeowner got up to investigate, he was surprised to see a woman standing in his family room with an arm full of his property. The woman dropped all the victim’s belongings before fleeing through the back door.
The victim followed the suspect out back and encountered a man outside armed with a set of bolt cutters. He tried to strike the victim but was countered by the victim and taken down to the ground.
The pair fled, one on an orange bike and the other on foot. No property was taken.
Two hours after the incident, Copp and Nystrom were detained near 20th Street and Park Avenue after Office Cameron Kovacs matched their descriptions. The homeowner identified them as the suspects who tried to break into his house.
Nystrom has a felony record. He was in possession of a duffle bag that contained a loaded .45 caliber revolver and a 20-gauge double-barreled shotgun along with other items. Because of his record, he also was charged with possessing firearms or ammunition.
At the victim's request, the department is not releasing his name.
