Homeless man arrested for burglary


Chico police arrested a man near the Chico State campus for breaking into woman’s car and stealing personal property.

A man police are calling the car break-in bandit was arrested Oct. 25 by the department’s TARGET team.

Officers arrested Aaron Richmond, 18, around 8:30 a.m. and charged him with burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen property.

According to a press release from Chico police:

The evening before Richmond’s arrest, a woman reported that her vehicle was broken into and her personal belongings were stolen in the 500 block of Vallombrosa Avenue in Chico. The items included credit cards, a U.S. passport, loose change and a grocery store membership card inside backpack.

Officers approached Richmond at the Bidwell Bowl Amphitheater near the Children’s Playground in downtown Chico for illegal camping. Richmond was sleeping in the walkway, and officers saw that he was in possession of a backpack that appeared to contain stolen property.

The property matched the items stolen the night before. He was also in possession of a window-punch device and had pieces of broken glass in his pockets.

Officers arrested Richmond and transported him to Butte County Jail.

The owner of the stolen property was contacted. Her name was not released by Chico police.
