City Council decides next moves for marijuana laws

All of Chico’s marijuana ordinances will be streamlined into a single city law, the City Council decided Tuesday night.

City Attorney Vincent Ewing was directed to combine the city's current rules so they're consistent with California Senate Bill 94, the latest state law regulating marijuana.

The Medicinal and Adult-Use Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act was signed into law last June. It makes specialty growing licenses available for both medical and recreational use, as well as removing a residency requirement; the same rights to licenses will be extended to residents of other states and countries.

The council vote was close. Three councilmembers voted no, saying they are worried about the time and cost of the making of revisions.
