Dozens of people attended the Trans March at Chico State University on Nov. 17 to show their support for transgender communities.
Trans program coordinator Seve Christian says the purpose of the march is to show support for the trans community.
“The original purpose of the march was to focus on highlighting the resilience of the trans community and gender diverse communities everywhere.”
Christian says Donald Trump’s election left lots of people in need of support.
“With the current political climate, it’s kind of taken on a different feeling. We’re really trying to tell people and let people know that although it was mainly focused on the trans community, we’re now trying to show up for each other -- everyone regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.”
Trans program intern David Perez says he’s marching because in honor of the trans community.
“I’m doing this march because I feel that out of all the members of the LGBTQ+ community the trans community is one of the more neglected and I feel like they need to have more of a voice.”
