City council came to this decision after discussing about how there was little funding to support Chico Scrap Metal in a move.
Many Chapmantown residents voiced their opinions at the meeting. Among the speakers were Loretta Torres and Karl Ory, two candidates for the upcoming 2016 City Council elections.
Loretta Torres opposed the move. "If we force Chico Scrap Metal to leave, then that sends a bad message to any potential businesses that want to move here to Chico," Torres said.
Karl Ory is in favor to the move. "It's not fair to Chico. This is a toxic facility," Ory said.
Further details on how funding will be provided to the company will be discussed in future meetings.
