Council passes downtown Starbucks parklet

The Chico City Council voted 4-2 Tuesday night to approve a new Starbucks outdoor dining area at its 246 Broadway St. location.

The proposed parklet will have an open arch top with subsections of planter boxes, bike racks and seating for the public.

Public concerns were mainly about over-crowded parking downtown from future outdoor dining proposals.

The construction of the parklet will not take up additional parking spots or bike racks downtown according to Yumi Ohon, Starbucks project design manager.

“We want to bring community together as well as allow access for the public.” said Yumi Ohon.
