Chico woman arrested after fleeing on a train

After boarding a train to flee from the scene of a hit-and-run in Chico on Sept. 15, a suspect was arrested by police in Redding.

According to a  police press news release, at 1:47 a.m., a woman driving her vehicle struck a Butte College  student crossing the intersection of West Fifth and Orange streets. Police would identify the driver as 66-year-old Polly Williamson.

Witnesses said they saw Williamson boarding a northbound Amtrak train as police made their way to the crime scene. The passenger train was stopped in Redding, and Williamson was detained. She voluntarily agreed to be taken back to Chico, according to the news release.

Williamson later gave police a statement about her involvement in the hit-and-run while in their custody. She was then arrested and posted bond to appear in court.

The college student was rushed to Enloe Medical Center. He was listed in serious but stable condition.

Chico police did not return calls seeking further information about the incident.
