Chico Scrap Metal isn't moving

The Chico City Council voted 4-3 on Tuesday night to keep Chico Scrap Metal at its current location on East 20th Street.

A total of 32 citizens voiced their opinions on whether or not they wanted Chico Scrap Metal to remain in the same location, most of whom felt that the yard was harmful to the Chapman neighborhood.

“It’s a dangerous place to be in,” said Debra Abbott, a citizen who wants the business relocated.

A few citizens sided in favor of keeping Scrap Metal in its current location.

“It isn’t just the people, it’s the businesses. The people I know in the area feel it’s a benefit,” said resident Sean Cooney.

Almost all people who spoke at the Council Meeting agreed that the Scrap Metal yard was needed in the community, just not in its current location.

Despite many citizen’s pleas, the Chico City Council decided against forced relocation because it would put Chico Scrap Metal out of business.
