Police respond to a call outside a fraternity house party near Hazel and Third streets.

This past weekend saw an increased number of crimes and arrests reported, including a shooting at a house party and vehicle pursuits, over the Cesar Chavez Day weekend.
According to a news release from the Chico Police Department, 259 citations and arrests were made from from March 29 through April 1. Additional police teams were called in to Chico to assist with increased calls.
Traffic and parking citations, 117 in total, were the most common offenses.
Alcohol-related citations were highest Saturday and Sunday and included citations for possession of open containers of alcohol, minors in possession of alcohol and violating the glass ban. Public intoxication arrests were included in the count of misdemeanor arrests.

Police reported several significant calls including a shooting at a large house party, many noise complaints and a vehicle pursuit with suspects who police believed had guns.
The shooting that occurred Saturday night left two in the hospital.
Around 8 p.m., police called to Cedar and West Third streets found a young woman with a gunshot wound in the chest. They also discovered another victim, a male, had been rushed to Enloe Medical Center with gunshot wounds.
Police are investigating the incident and said they believe that two students got into a fight at a party, which led to one person firing a gun. The woman who was shot was believed to have been an accidental bystander. Both victims are currently in stable condition.
Commander Matt Rodden said Tuesday that he estimated around 100 of the citations involved people drinking.
Rodden said that in preparation for this weekend extra teams of officers, each of which had six to seven officers and one sergeant, were working each day, with one additional team on call on Friday and two of the extra teams on duty over the weekend Saturday and Sunday.
