Expansion Project approved

The Chico Planning Commission approved Thursday the Walmart Expansion Project on a 5-2 vote after hours of deliberation.

The project includes the expansion of the the existing Walmart by up to 64,000 square feet, creating a fuel station and adding more than 100 parking spaces.

About 50 Chico residents attended the meeting to express both opposition and support.
The committee deliberated for three hours over the proposed project.

“A vote for business is a vote for public safety,” said Katie Simmons, a proponent.

The proposal will come before the City Council in a matter of months.
