A group of English teachers from around the world attended the Chico School Board meeting Feb. 17 to learn more about American education.
“They are so amazed by how open the education system is here in the U.S.,” said Diana Parks, director of international training programs at Chico State.
The 18 teachers -- from Mali, Ghana and Ecuador as well as other countries -- will be visiting elementary and middle schools in Chico this week.
They are part of a program funded by the State Department called Teaching Excellence and Achievement. The Office of International Education at Chico State is hosting their six-week visit.
Launched in 2006, the TEA program allows international teachers to participate in cultural programs, community service and volunteer projects. It also helps provide an introduction to culture and the education system in the U.S.
