County Planning Commission votes on adult business locations

The Butte County Planning Commission voted during its Dec. 13 meeting to keep adult shops out of light-industrial zones.

The commission added adult shops to a list of businesses that might have an undesirable effect on surrounding areas. Examples include liquor stores, pawnshops, tobacco stores, tattoo parlors, piercing shops and nightclubs.

Dan Breedon, principal planner at the meeting, described them as establishments “which may need to be disbursed to minimize their impacts.”

Light-industrial zones are generally composed of establishments with little potential to make noise, odor or vibration. Before this meeting, adult shops were permitted in light- and heavy- industrial zones, but the commission's action limits adult shops to heavy- and general-industrial zones.
