City Council hears about plans for housing survivors of the Camp Fire

Officials propose placing 250 mobile homes near the Chico airport for fire refugees.

Plans for temporary housing for the survivors of the Camp Fire have been proposed to the Chico City Council for review.

Kevin Hannes, who works for the state Office of Emergency Services, told the council at a special meeting Wednesday night that within the next 120 days there will be 250 mobile homes available for displaced Paradise residents receiving aid from FEMA.

The proposed location for the trailers near the Chico airport was met with objections from council members and people at the meeting, most of whom were concerned about traffic and safety issues due to an influx of approximately 500 people.

“We want to do what’s right by the disaster survivors and do what’s right for Chico as well,” Hannes said.
